“This seems ridiculous (can’t you just use your fingers?), but trust me, this thing was a lifesaver when solid foods came into the mix — I found that I was applying more butt cream than was humanly possible to this tiny human. Made that process not only easier but also less gross. (i.e., no more butt cream under your nails ladies!). I buy this for all my new mom friends.” — Chelsa Crowley, founder, Stowaway Cosmetics, mother of a 9-month-old
“The last thing a new mom has time to do is cook. They’re tired and will want food, but ordering out gets old. An Instant Pot makes the easiest dinners.” — Jo Zasloff, certified nurse midwife, Central Park Midwifery, New York City
“These LexyPexy organic New York City eco-chic teethers are sustainable maple wood, naturally anti-bacterial, nontoxic, non-allergenic, non-splintering — and handmade with love.” —Melissa Tortorella, owner, Pink Olive

A new mama basket can fit within most budgets and it is perfect for personalizing. There are some things that I include in all of them, but for most of the items, I think about what I know about the mama. Does she hope to breastfeed? I include a bunch of things to support her efforts. Does she plan to have a natural birth or is she having a medically necessary C-section? There are gifts specific to each circumstance. Does she want to use all-natural products on her baby to avoid toxins? I think you get the idea!
“I totally registered for a fancy high-tech baby bath, and a friend had the nerve to show up to our baby shower with this one. Obviously, she knew something I didn’t. It’s amazing and works just as well for an infant as it does for a toddler. Our 2-year-old loves bath time in this tub. In the first couple months, we added a sponge-bath cushion for extra support, since she was born on the small side.” — Lauren Hart, engineer, mother of a 23-month-old
We just received the gift basket that we ordered and it was absolutely BEAUTIFUL and in PERFECT condition! Thank you so much for all that you all did to make our co-worker’s birthday special! I have posted your business card on our company bulletin board with a note encouraging people to keep your company in mind for gifts (and told them how FABULOUS the customer service was)!! Thanks again and have a GREAT day!!

The reader journey’s with a caring mother on a trip to supply a warmer climate for the three year old Betty and 6 month old Ann. When all are settled into the back of the horse-drawn buckboard the trip begins. Illustrator Ted Rand adeptly interprets his wife, Gloria’s text. The visions one sees and feels as the threesome becomes separated during an accident on the river, are terrifying, exciting and eventually joyous. A must read for all lovers of children’s books.
“I take this little green mat everywhere: Restaurants, friends’ houses, and I even use it at home. It helps me avoid the kids’ food being on dirty germ-filled tables, plus cleanup is easy: You just move the mess from table to sink. Once kids are a little older, it’s great for playing with play-doh, too.” —Amanda Olsen
After Ann and Jack moved to Seattle, they climbed every mountain in the area, including Mt. Rainier. Ann died age 96; older sister Betty died age 99. Both sisters loved the book and were very happy it was published; they gave copies to everyone they knew.

She appears briefly in The Prince of Egypt under the name ‘Yocheved’, portrayed by (and resembling) the late Israeli vocalist Ofra Haza. In the film, she sings a lullaby to baby Moses as she sets the basket carrying him adrift in the river, also pleading the river to deliver Moses “somewhere he can live free”. Ofra sang the lullaby in 18 languages for the film’s dubbing (including her native Hebrew language, which was the latter’s native tongue).

According to Feldman, Josephus also attaches particular significance to Moses’ possession of the “cardinal virtues of wisdom, courage, temperance, and justice.” He also includes piety as an added fifth virtue. In addition, he “stresses Moses’ willingness to undergo toil and his careful avoidance of bribery. Like Plato’s philosopher-king, Moses excels as an educator.”[71]
Joseph and the king of Egypt died. Many years went by. The Israelites lived in Egypt a long time. They had many children. One king of Egypt did not like the Israelites. He thought there were too many of them. He was afraid they would take his land away from him.
If the new mom is planning to nurse her baby, you could put together a basket that she can keep near her. In that basket, you could fill it with water bottles, a lip balm, a magazine, and a pad of paper and a pen. Leave a spot for the TV remote and phone. Extras would be a baby blanket, some hand lotion, a little snack or two, some cotton swabs, baby nail clippers, and whatever else you can think of that your friend will like and use. It is nice to have everything close by. When the new mom is unable to get up because of a sleeping or nursing baby, it is handy to have everything close by, all in one basket.

Moses is mentioned 502 times in the Quran; passages mentioning Moses include 2.49–61, 7.103–160, 10.75–93, 17.101–104, 20.9–97, 26.10–66, 27.7–14, 28.3–46, 40.23–30, 43.46–55, 44.17–31, and 79.15–25. and many others. Most of the key events in Moses’ life which are narrated in the Bible are to be found dispersed through the different Surahs of the Quran, with a story about meeting Khidr which is not found in the Bible.[100]
Loved that the baby gifts were unusual, and that the basket included some special items for the new mother. Her thank you note mentioned how nice it was that the gift arrived the day she came home from the hospital. Thank you Amazon Prime!

“My shout-out goes to the Wubbanub. It saved us. When our girl was still on the younger side, she’d drop the regular pacifier from her mouth and need us to come put it back in — or even hold it in place, and my sister introduced us to the Wubbanub. In those early days, we could wedge the animal part between things to keep the pacifier accessible for her even if it fell out of her mouth, and when she was a little older, she could grab it more easily herself to put it back in. Life-changing.”—Katie Krieger, engineer, mother of an 18-month-old
“Hands down, the most useful thing we have is the Dock-a-Tot, it looks like a baby life raft and has magical sleep-inducing powers over our son. I bought it based purely on Amazon reviews and celebrity endorsements, and I reckon I’d be a zombie without it.” — Erin Crawford, financial services, mother of a 6-month-old
“Our very kind neighbors lent us this DVD that taught us how to get her to stop screaming bloody murder in the first few weeks. I can’t tell you the difference it made.” —Emily Ross, assistant provost at School of Visual Arts, mother of a 15-month-old

“New moms need many nursing bras, but you don’t need to spend a fortune. I really love these, plus they’re cheap, so you can get lots.” — Jo Zasloff, certified nurse midwife, Central Park Midwifery, New York City
In the 1960s, a leading figure in the civil rights movement was Martin Luther King Jr., who was called “a modern Moses,” and often referred to Moses in his speeches: “The struggle of Moses, the struggle of his devoted followers as they sought to get out of Egypt. This is something of the story of every people struggling for freedom.”[129]
I would suggest those things that would make life easier for the new mom, including a little pampering. A few frozen main dishes would be very welcome! She’ll be exhausted and not having to cook would be wonderful. If you do not want to cook, I would include gift certificates to restaurants. Even certificates to carry out and delivery places would be great. Include a gift card for a massage, pedicure, or something just for her to get away for personal renewal. Even a card offering to babysit would be a blessing!
Textual scholars attribute the genealogy to the Book of Generations, a hypothetical document originating from a similar religiopolitical group and date to the priestly source.[23] According to biblical scholars, the Torah’s genealogy for Levi’s descendants, is actually an aetiological myth reflecting the fact that there were four different groups among the Levites – the Gershonites, Kohathites, Merarites, and Aaronids;[24] Aaron – the eponymous ancestor of the Aaronids – couldn’t be portrayed as a brother to Gershon, Kohath, and Merari, as the narrative about the birth of Moses (brother of Aaron), which textual scholars attribute to the earlier Elohist source, mentions only that both his parents were Levites (without identifying their names).[25] Biblical scholars suspect that the Elohist account offers both matrilinial and patrilinial descent from Levites in order to magnify the religious credentials of Moses.[24]

References to Moses were used by the Puritans, who relied on the story of Moses to give meaning and hope to the lives of Pilgrims seeking religious and personal freedom in America. John Carver was the first governor of Plymouth colony and first signer of the Mayflower Compact, which he wrote in 1620 during the ship Mayflower’s three-month voyage. He inspired the Pilgrims with a “sense of earthly grandeur and divine purpose,” notes historian Jon Meacham,[114] and was called the “Moses of the Pilgrims.”[115] Early American writer James Russell Lowell noted the similarity of the founding of America by the Pilgrims to that of ancient Israel by Moses:
In a metaphorical sense in the Christian tradition, a “Moses” has been referred to as the leader who delivers the people from a terrible situation. Among the Presidents of the United States known to have used the symbolism of Moses were Harry S. Truman, Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush and Barack Obama, who referred to his supporters as “the Moses generation.”[111]
Huston Smith describes an account in the Quran of meetings in heaven between Moses and Muhammad, which Huston states were “one of the crucial events in Muhammad’s life,” and resulted in Muslims observing 5 daily prayers.[102]
Also, baby body care products always are a good choice since most of them can be used for a long time. So parents never can have too much of these. After baby arrives, most people in the west are too busy thinking about the new bundle of joy to worry about how the mother is doing. In some countries, it’s traditional to help new mothers and let them have a proper pampered babymoon, but that’s not so common here. So do something different – spoil a new mother with a gift basket. Here are some great ideas to add to the basket.
Moses is mentioned more in the Quran than any other individual and his life is narrated and recounted more than that of any other Islamic prophet.[100] In general, Moses is described in ways which parallel the Islamic prophet Muhammad,[101] and “his character exhibits some of the main themes of Islamic theology,” including the “moral injunction that we are to submit ourselves to God.”[citation needed]

Books and DVDs: Speaking of relaxation techniques, consider giving books and DVDs about pregnancy, birth and babies! Some of my favorites are Natural Childbirth the Bradley Way, “Making Babies” book and DVD set and “The Naturally Healthy Pregnancy.”
Since you haven’t had a little one yet, you can’t possibly imagine the level of exhaustion your new friend will experience. Things that would be very valuable to her would be home-cooked meals she can freeze and heat up when she’s too tired to cook (you can give her coupons for these and bring them over once a week). Or give coupons to help her clean her house or for babysitting time so she can take a nap, enjoy a bath, or just get out alone for a while. In addition, lotions and creams that include Shea and Cocoa Butter are always welcome because her skin will stretch and change a great deal if she’s nursing.
Some rabbinic literature attempts to resolve the textual discrepancy in which the Torah lists 34 children of Leah born in Mesopotamia, stating that two were dead, and then immediately states that there were 33 in total,[16] by arguing that the figure referred only to the surviving children, and that Jochebed was the 33rd;[17][18] however, since the Book of Numbers describes Jochebed’s birth as occurring in Egypt,[1] this necessitated the further rabbinic argument that Jochebed was born exactly on the border of Egypt, in the gateway of the city.[17][18] Biblical scholars have instead simply proposed that the discrepancy in the enumeration of Leah’s children is due to the list not originally having included Dinah, who was added by a later editor to introduce consistency with the story of the Rape of Dinah.[19]
The writer quotes Genesis in a “style which presents the nature of the deity in a manner suitable to his pure and great being,” however he does not mention Moses by name, calling him ‘no chance person’ (οὐχ ὁ τυχὼν ἀνήρ) but “the Lawgiver” (θεσμοθέτης, thesmothete) of the Jews,” a term that puts him on a par with Lycurgus and Minos.[67] Aside from a reference to Cicero, Moses is the only non-Greek writer quoted in the work, contextually he is put on a par with Homer,[68] and he is described “with far more admiration than even Greek writers who treated Moses with respect, such as Hecataeus and Strabo.[69]
On the banks of the Jordan River, in sight of the land, Moses assembled the tribes. After recalling their wanderings he delivered God’s laws by which they must live in the land, sang a song of praise and pronounced a blessing on the people, and passed his authority to Joshua, under whom they would possess the land. Moses then went up Mount Nebo to the top of Pisgah, looked over the promised land of Israel spread out before him, and died, at the age of one hundred and twenty. More humble than any other man (Num. 12:3), “there hath not arisen a prophet since in Israel like unto Moses, whom YHWH knew face to face” (Deuteronomy 34:10). The New Testament states that after Moses’ death, Michael the Archangel and the Devil disputed over his body (Epistle of Jude 1:9).[citation needed]

One of the problems with having a new baby is that you crave healthy food but have no time to make it for yourself. The beauty of this gift basket from Mouth.com—home to many great food gift baskets for all occasions—is that it includes items that are both snacky and at least somewhat healthy. (See: Barely Sweet Gluten-Free Granola, coconut pecan granola bars, and nori sesame gourmet popcorn.) It also includes some straight-up non-healthy treats—like the all-natural white-chocolate macadamia peanut butter—and a cute unisex swaddle.
Moses appears eight times in carvings that ring the Supreme Court Great Hall ceiling. His face is presented along with other ancient figures such as Solomon, the Greek god Zeus and the Roman goddess of wisdom, Minerva. The Supreme Court Building’s east pediment depicts Moses holding two tablets. Tablets representing the Ten Commandments can be found carved in the oak courtroom doors, on the support frame of the courtroom’s bronze gates and in the library woodwork. A controversial image is one that sits directly above the Chief Justice of the United States’ head. In the center of the 40-foot-long Spanish marble carving is a tablet displaying Roman numerals I through X, with some numbers partially hidden.[145]
There are many joys to new motherhood—the first, of course, being the baby. The runner up, however, may well be all the amazing food people send you upon having recently given birth. Indeed, food gifts are great to give new parents. Baby clothes are cute, but it’s harder to guess people’s taste in infant outfits than it is to speculate whether or not they like really good cheese. In the days after I gave birth, I was exhausted, starving, and overwhelmed—but the arrival of a Russ & Daughters gift package to my doorstep was truly thrilling, not to mention sustaining.

Adventure and high drama unfurl in this true story that carries all the seeds of tragedy, but ends happily. In the harsh Alaskan winter of 1917, a mother and her two young children, baby Ann and three-year old Betty, climbed into a horse-drawn sleigh, hoping to spend the winter in the kinder climate of Washington. During a violent snow storm, the horses tossed and scattered the passengers; Betty was pulled out from a swift current under ice, but baby Ann was swept away. Later in the day, two trappers found the baby in a basket floating down the icy river, and returned her, unharmed, to her mother. It’s a story of miracle, hardship, survival, and hope that is strongly enhanced by the author’s suspenseful telling and the illustrator’s exquisite winter scenes. His art is full of detail, from the red-cheeked, cherry-nosed travelers, to the cold clouds puffing from the horse’s nostrils, to the evident ferocity of the winter storm. To Orthodox Jews, Moses is called Moshe Rabbenu, `Eved HaShem, Avi haNeviim zya”a: “Our Leader Moshe, Servant of God, Father of all the Prophets (may his merit shield us, amen)”.[86] In the orthodox view, Moses received not only the Torah, but also the revealed (written and oral) and the hidden (the `hokhmat nistar teachings, which gave Judaism the Zohar of the Rashbi, the Torah of the Ari haQadosh and all that is discussed in the Heavenly Yeshiva between the Ramhal and his masters). He is also considered the greatest prophet.[87][88]
In Strabo’s writings of the history of Judaism as he understood it, he describes various stages in its development: from the first stage, including Moses and his direct heirs; to the final stage where “the Temple of Jerusalem continued to be surrounded by an aura of sanctity.” Strabo’s “positive and unequivocal appreciation of Moses’ personality is among the most sympathetic in all ancient literature.”[62] His portrayal of Moses is said to be similar to the writing of Hecataeus who “described Moses as a man who excelled in wisdom and courage.”[62]
“When you get home from the hospital, things can be messy. It’s great to have a few sets of dark sheets, so you don’t stain all your nice, pretty white ones.” — Jo Zasloff, certified nurse midwife, Central Park Midwifery

After the establishment of settled life in Egypt in early times, which took place, according to the mythical account, in the period of the gods and heroes, the first… to persuade the multitudes to use written laws was Mneves [Moses], a man not only great of soul but also in his life the most public-spirited of all lawgivers whose names are recorded.[55]

The girl brought the basket over to her, and when Pharaoh’s daughter opened it, the light startled Moses so he woke up and started to cry.  “What a sweet, beautiful little baby.  It must be one of the Israelite’s,”  Pharaoh’s daughter said to her servants.

His relevance to modern Christianity has not diminished. Moses is considered to be a saint by several churches; and is commemorated as a prophet in the respective Calendars of Saints of the Eastern Orthodox Church, the Roman Catholic Church, and the Lutheran churches on September 4. In Eastern Orthodox liturgics for September 4, Moses is commemorated as the “Holy Prophet and God-seer Moses, on Mount Nebo”.[92][93][Note 4] The Orthodox Church also commemorates him on the Sunday of the Forefathers, two Sundays before the Nativity.[95]

Give them the gift of a new best friend with a huggable stuffed animal or a fuzzy blanket. Toys like these are great gift ideas for a first birthday as well, since they are far from outgrowing them. For the soon-to-be-queen, a personalized tutu and body suit set and a princess banner are perfect girl’s 1st birthday gift ideas ideas to celebrate her day in style. Not to mention, they will make adorable photos!
The tradition of Moses as a lawgiver and culture hero of the Israelites may go back to the 7th-century BCE sources of the Deuteronomist, which might conserve earlier traditions. Kenneth Kitchen, described as a distinguished but lonely voice among British Egyptologists on the subject,[36] argues that there is an historic core behind the Exodus, with Egyptian corvée labour exacted from Hebrews during the imperialist control exercised by the Egyptian Empire over Canaan from the time of the Thutmosides down to the revolt against Merneptah and Rameses III.[37] Kitchen argued that there is a lack of factual evidence to deny his existence.[38] Martin Noth called the Deuteronomic description of Moses’ burial a ″lone historical tradition.″[39] William Albright believed in the essential historicity of the biblical tales of Moses and the Exodus, accepting however that the core narrative had been overlaid by legendary accretions.[40] Biblical minimalists such as Philip R. Davies and Niels Peter Lemche regard all biblical books, and the stories of an Exodus, united monarchy, exile and return as fictions composed by a social elite in Yehud in the Persian period or even later, the purpose being to legitimize a return to indigenous roots.[41]
In Josephus’ (37 – c. 100 CE) Antiquities of the Jews, Moses is mentioned throughout. For example Book VIII Ch. IV, describes Solomon’s Temple, also known as the First Temple, at the time the Ark of the Covenant was first moved into the newly built temple:
“These pacifier strings are fantastic because pacifiers are hideous but pacifier clips are even worse — but very necessary. These make them attractive.” —Cara Sullivan, floral designer, mother of a 5-year-old and a 2-year-old
“Even though many families are trying to stay away from these sorts of fluorescent plastic nightmares, this freestanding tripod swing can be a lifesaver. And while we try to be holistic, we also are realistic. There’s a mirror and some sound effects, and it can swing very gently to quite aggressively. It really kind of takes care of itself. Of all the things to have, this might be one to concede to. You have to cook, or you have to write an email, and sometimes you don’t want a baby on your hip when you’re doing that.” — Samantha Huggins, certified birth doula and educator, Carriage House Birth
